NFL Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles could lose Ronald Darby to 49ers
Rumor has it the San Francisco 49ers are doing everything they can to land Ronald Darby. With what may be a high price tag, don’t be surprised if he leaves the Philadelphia Eagles soon.
If we haven’t learned anything else, we’ve learned two things. We can argue about the size of the market for cornerbacks. We can also say there are limited options. Whatever your theory, we can all agree that Ronald Darby ranks at the top of the list of free agents at his position. The Philadelphia Eagles have told him they want to keep him. He’s stated he wants to stay as well, but there’s one big issue.
With the amount of money he has the potential of making (some believe that could be upwards of $12 million or more), the belief is Philly may not be able to or willing to pay the high price to keep him.
Joining Darby on the list of some of the better free agent cornerbacks who are still available is Pierre Desir, who signed a one-year ‘prove-it’ deal last year and came up big in 2018 for the Indianapolis Colts. Then, there’s Bryce Callahan and Steven Nelson.
The criteria may be different, but we can all agree that all four of the guys mentioned can be seen as being among the top-50 free agent prospects available, regardless of the position they play.
In Darby’s case, there will be suitors. In addition to Philly, we’ve learned of another. Add the San Francisco 49ers to the list. Some believe the 49ers are trying to work out a trade with the New York Giants for the services of Odell Beckham Jr. Others believe San Fran is looking for someone to pair with Richard Sherman.
Nothing we can hang our hat on is being written or said, but keep an eye on this one anyway. Rumor has it that this is something that may be worth paying attention to.
