The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off the 2019 NFL Free Agency period with some heavy interest in Tevin Coleman. Unfortunately,  he won’t be coming here.

This past Monday was a productive start to the week for Howie Roseman and company. The Philadelphia Eagles ended up acquiring veteran defensive tackle, Malik Jackson. Then, they took care of the passing game by trading for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Now the Eagles have a glaring hole at the running back position with Darren Sproles and Jay Ajayi available on the Free Agency market as well.

Word around the league was that the Eagles had a substantial amount of interest in former Atlanta Falcons running back, Tevin Coleman. Since he has proved over the last four seasons that he can share a workload, as well be a productive pass-catching back, he fits the mold of the type of player the Eagles were looking for. There was only one problem – he could’ve demanded a price tag outside of the Eagles desired price range.

Apparently, the Eagles wanted to pay no more than $7 million a year for Coleman. If the market price were going to go above that, then they would be unwilling to get into a bidding war. Unfortunately, it didn’t even get to that. It seems as though Coleman had his eyes set on the West Coast as he will now join his former offensive coordinator, Kyle Shannahan.

Coleman Inks a deal with the 49ers

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Coleman has signed a two-year contract, worth $10 million. Yes, that’s $10 million total, which turns out to be a shock. As the Eagles might’ve anticipated somewhere around $14 million for two years, Coleman clearly had his eyes set on the 49ers for quite a while now. That leaves the Eagles continuing their search.

What can the Eagles do next? Well, there’s only a couple of veterans left available that are worth a look. Also, there’s the possibility that Roseman gets on the phone and proposes a trade. Don’t rule out a potential Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles return either. If one of those guys come back, we can be sure that the Eagles are going to be aggressive in drafting a running back this year.
