Nelson Agholor reacts to remaining with the Eagles for the 2019 NFL season
After finding out he would be staying with the Philadelphia Eagles, Nelson Agholor reacted on Twitter.
The last couple of weeks must’ve been stressful for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, Nelson Agholor. Ever since the start of the NFL Combine, his name has been actively involved with trade scenarios. Considering that his fifth-year option has him getting paid over $9 million for 2019, many assumed that Agholor’s future in Philly would be up in the air.
Has Agholor earned over $9 million for this upcoming season? His production says no, but the wide receiver market says yes. Slot receivers are getting paid this year. For reference, the New York Jets just issued Jamison Crowder with a three-year contract, worth $28.5 million. His average salary becomes $9.5 million, which is around where Agholor is going to get paid this season.
Last year, Crowder finished with 388 yards, and two touchdowns in only nine games. Now, do you believe that Agholor is worth the money? It’s rare that the Eagles spend so much on the wide receiver position, but this year it’s necessary. With Carson Wentz approaching a contract year, the Eagles need to make sure that he is going to be worth a long-term investment.
Therefore, they are getting him all of the weapons that he needs. A possession receiver, a deep threat, and a guy in the slot. Being that Agholor is one of the more reliable slot wideouts in the league, it only makes sense to keep him around for at least another year. And for that, Agholor is happy and grateful to be around for 2019.
Nelson Agholor reacts to the news that he’s staying
On Wednesday, the official NFL new year began at 4 PM EST. That’s when Agholor’s guaranteed salary hit. Although the word around Philly was that the Eagles were likely going to keep Agholor, it became official. It took a while for Agholor to respond, but he finally took to Twitter to express his feelings towards the fact that he will be in midnight green for at least another season.
