The Philadelphia Eagles have created more cap space by restructuring Nigel Bradham and Chris Long.

So the Philadelphia Eagles have been very quiet these last few days. As we saw targeted prospects ink new deals, and former Eagles find new homes, it kind of hard to figure out what exactly Howie Roseman is doing. Seeing as though he continues to manipulate the cap situation, we can only assume that at some point a move is coming.

On Friday morning, it has been reported that two more players restructured their contracts. Veteran linebacker Nigel Bradham, and defensive end Chris Long both help the Eagles out this time by getting their salary shifted into a bonus in order to create cap space. According to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates, the Eagles have created just a little over $5 million in space.

Crunching the numbers

According to 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, the Eagles should have an estimated $15.5 million in cap space with this restructure, plus their moves from earlier in the week. That’s plenty of space to make another decent move or two. What will it be though? Could they finally find another running back to bring on board? Or maybe they are bringing back one of their own in Ronald Darby or Jay Ajayi? Perhaps they are going to give Carson Wentz the big contract extension that they were rumored to wait an extra year for? Who truly knows. At least we know that something is coming, though.

What’s going on with Chris Long?

With the restructuring of Chris Long, Eagles fans got excited. Many assumed that since Long was restructuring his deal, then he’s more than likely going to be back for the 2019 season. Not so fast though. Long immediately took to Twitter to shut down all assumptions. As fans replied to Yate’s Tweet speculating that Long would be back, Long himself replied saying “that doesn’t mean that at all.” So, apparently, Long is still debating on playing or not in 2019.

Let’s remember, a few months ago; Long said that he feels like he still has gas left in the tank and still has the itch to keep playing. He also stated that if the Eagles would like to have him back, he would definitely be open to it. Well, the Eagles haven’t cut him, and Long hasn’t signaled at retiring. So at this point, we just have to play the waiting game, but I’d say there’s a very good chance that Long is back next season.
