Ronald Darby will return for at least one more season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

As expected, the Philadelphia Eagles are going to go through with re-signing veteran cornerback, Ronald Darby. There were talks about a potential re-signing over the past couple of days now, and the Eagles made it happen. As we know, Darby is still healing from his torn ACL, that he suffered following the bye week last season against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Free Agency market was expected to be quite generous to Darby considering his age, and experience but it seems as though his knee injury has made teams a bit worried. As Darby paid a visit to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, it’s rumored that they might’ve offered him a multi-year deal. Considering the fact that Darby left without signing, it’s clear that his offers from others were not very favorable. Now, he will gamble on a one-year, prove it deal in Philly.

The official announcement

Now, the 25-year-old cornerback will remain with the team for at least one more year. Right now, Darby is still rehabbing, and there’s a good chance that he may not even be fully ready to return by week one, which is extremely unfortunate. Although Darby has had some solid flashes on the Eagles defense over the last two seasons, he spent a lot of time injured and rehabbing injuries.

During his first season with the Eagles, Darby ended up dislocating his ankle during the first half of the season-opener. He wouldn’t return until after the midseason bye week. Then, the following year Darby got off to a healthy start but would tear his ACL late in November. Now, Darby is working on getting fully healthy again, but it could cost him a game or two this year as well.

Heading into the 2019 NFL season, the Eagles were in solid shape even without Darby on the depth chart. Having Jalen Mills, Avonte Maddox, Rasul Douglas, and Cre’Von LeBlanc was already a promising situation. But having Darby back definitely gives the Eagles some comfortable depth. Plus, we’re still unsure of where Mills is at in his rehab with his foot injury.
