Eagles Rumor: Vinny Curry has an offer waiting for him in Philly
The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have an offer pending for their former defensive end, Vinny Curry.
Is there another team in the NFL who loves defensive line depth more than the Philadelphia Eagles? Or an even better question – is there another team in the NFL who loves player reunions more than the Eagles? Honestly, the Eagles are big fans of both. It seems like every week the Eagles are on the hunt for a reunion. Last season they wanted to bring LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin back at a point, while they ended up actually signing Jordan Matthews.
This year, the Eagles went out and traded for DeSean Jackson, and now they are rumored to have interest in their former defensive end, Vinny Curry. This seems to be the Philadelphia Eagles way ever since Howie Roseman got back in the front office. At least with this move though, the Eagles won’t be relying heavily on Curry to live up to his contract’s potential as he would most likely come back for cheap. Right now though, the defensive lineman is still entertaining other potential landing spots.
Do the Eagles have an offer on the table for Curry?
According to 97.3 ESPN’s Geoff Mosher, the Eagles have a pending deal on the table for Curry. Last season, the Eagles released Curry after the Super Bowl run. Although Curry wasn’t terrible in his final season with the Eagles, he never quite lived up to the value of his contract. Many media outlets were going as far as saying Curry had one of the worst deals in the NFL in terms of his production and value towards his team.
Therefore, the Eagles had to cut him loose to free up some cap space. Curry then went and signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and had the same type of issues down south as well. And after one season in Tampa, Curry got the pink slip for the second consecutive offseason. Now, he’s out visiting with other teams as he looks for his next landing spot. Last week, he visited with the Cincinnati Bengals. And this week, it sounds like the Eagles are making their case to get him back.
It’s clear that Curry is not the defensive end that everybody thought he was going to be back in 2014. But he’s still not a bad option for the Eagles as a depth/rotational player. Unlike 2017, Curry would come in and get secondary reps from Derek Barnett, not the other way around. We all know that Curry isn’t exactly a master at rushing the passer, but he could help out in stopping the ground game. If the Eagles can get him back on a bargain deal, they should.
