Antonio Brown would’ve been thrilled to play with Carson Wentz and the Eagles
Weeks before Antonio Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders, he was entertaining the idea of playing with Carson Wentz and the Eagles.
Who thinks that players around the league doubt Carson Wentz in 2019? While many fans believed that the Philadelphia Eagles let the best quarterback walk when Nick Foles departed, other players around the NFL are still getting excited about the idea of playing with Carson Wentz. DeSean Jackson is the newest addition to the Eagles offense who seemed to have gotten overly excited about his brand new quarterback for the 2019 season.
But DJax isn’t the only player who was excited about the idea of catching passes from the Eagles’ quarterback. Former Pittsburgh Steelers and current Oakland Raiders wideout Antonio Brown was a bit thrilled with the idea of joining the Eagles just a couple of weeks before he officially got sent to the Oakland Raiders. During a call with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Brown recorded the conversation, which was an overview of his current situation while on the Steelers’ trade block.
Apparently, there were about five teams that were seriously in the mix. The Raiders being one. The Buffalo Bills being the other. And the Eagles, New England Patriots, and the Tennesee Titans as well. Although Brown himself didn’t have a ton to say about the other teams, he specifically mentioned that playing with Carson Wentz would be a “win-win” situation for himself.
Were the Eagles seriously considering a trade?
Basically, the Steelers were interested in the highest offer that they could get for Brown, which is not a surprise. Apparently, the Eagles might’ve had to offer up two first-round picks to get the deal done. Seeing as though Brown’s out of his 20’s, Howie Roseman and the Eagles probably recognized that wouldn’t be a bright idea. Regardless of the price though, at least we know that the Eagles weren’t a joke to Brown like the Bills were. So there’s that.
Getting Brown would’ve been a cool scenario for the Eagles. Imagine having Alshon Jeffery, Antonio Brown, and Nelson Agholor in the passing game. That would’ve been dangerous for secondaries. Fortunately though, the Eagles instead gave up a sixth-round pick for DeSean Jackson, who also makes them much more of a threat in the air. So they didn’t land AB, but at least the Eagles can feel right about the fact that their franchise quarterback is still highly-respected around the league, despite what many others think.
