As he contemplates retirement, Darren Sproles still has interest coming from his former team.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a strange situation in their backfield for 2019. As everybody seems a bit panicked right now though, understand that this is nothing we haven’t seen before. Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson have met with the media over the last two days while out in Arizona. With the backfield being the most significant question mark of the Eagles’ offseason, Roseman and Pederson cannot stress enough that they have plenty of time to make moves regarding the backfield. And if anybody is expecting them to go to a feature back-type of backfield, don’t hold your breath. It will in fact, be a running back by committee once again in 2019.

The big question now is – Who will be a part of that committee? Right now, the Eagles have a few guys on board. Josh Adams, Corey Clement, Donnel Pumphrey, and Boston Scott. They also have two Free Agent’s who are currently unsigned in Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles. There’s a possibility that Ajayi returns, as his agent has maintained talks with the Eagles. But don’t rule out a potential return for Darren Sproles either. The veteran running back is still undecided on what he wants to do moving forward, despite declaring 2018 his final season.

Thanks to two long-term injuries throughout the last two years, Sproles seems to feel unsatisfied with the way that he’s going out. That’s why he hinted at a potential return in 2019 while the 2018 season was still in play. Although he hasn’t confirmed that he wanted to definitely come back just yet, he also hasn’t established retirement as well. And as everybody waits for his personal decision, Doug Pederson seems to be on the edge of his seat waiting for a choice as well.

Does Doug Pederson want Sproles back next season?

Unlike Howie Roseman, who didn’t mention Sproles’ name on Monday, Pederson would love to have Sproles back in 2019. Although Sproles struggled to get on the field once again last season, he did have a couple of vintage moments that surely helped the Eagles out. Especially against the Houston Texans last year. Just because Pederson wants Sproles back though, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen if Sproles does in fact, keeps on playing.

The final decision to sign Sproles is ultimately up to Howie Roseman. Last year, Roseman made it a priority to get Sproles back on the Eagles when he found out that the veteran running back wasn’t retiring. This season, he didn’t seem to bring up the idea of getting Sproles back so much. Are the Eagles going to move on officially? Or are they just waiting to see what Sproles’ final decision is going to be? Once again, we will have to sit back and wait for it all to unfold. The ball is in Sproles’ court as of right now.
