With the NFL’s newest rule change, Eagles’ safety Rodney McLeod is not too optimistic about it making the game better.

The NFL continues to make changes every offseason. In recent years, we’ve seen changes regarding the positioning of the extra point attempt. We’ve also seen the changes to kickoffs, in order to eliminate more injuries. And this season, thanks to the New Orleans Saints, there’s going to be a change when it comes to pass coverage as well. Since the NFC Championship debacle last season, there’s a chance that pass interference calls can be reviewed. Needless to say, defensive backs around the league aren’t too thrilled about it. Especially Rodney McLeod.

The Eagles’ safety has had his fair share of complaints over the years. Since McLeod is recognized as the hard-hitter type, he’s received some unfavorable flags for the placement of his helmet. Regardless of whether the penalty was actually necessary or not.  Now, McLeod is even more disappointed with the newest rules change, since the game of football is going to be a lot harder for defensive backs moving forward.

What’s the official rule change?

Rodney McLeod Reacts to the Change

Knowing how hard it is to defend in today’s NFL, McLeod is visibly frustrated that the NFL is going to crack down on defensive backs even more in 2019. While yes, it is frustrating to see an obvious call get blown in an important game, we may see a lot more unwanted reviews and penalties throughout the course of the season next year.

dark. Next. There’s a good chance the Eagles draft a QB

Surprisingly, the Eagles did well against pass interference calls in 2018. But remember, they were missing a lot of guys periodically throughout the year. That includes the frustrated Rodney McLeod. As players already feel like they can barley play defense on wide receivers, the idea of a possible review is only going to make playing in coverage even harder. As McLeod stated, this specific rule change will most likely only cater to the offense. Being that the NFL is turning into an offensive league, we can expect a lot of lopsided changes in the forthcoming years.
