Will Grier, QB, West Virginia

Round 4, Pick 138

Calm down, everybody. No need to go crazy here. The Eagles aren’t in dire need of a quarterback since they have Carson Wentz backed up by Nate Sudfeld. But in this case, Will Grier was the best player available at this point in the draft, and the Eagles are in fact, expected to select a quarterback this year.

According to Eagles’ owner Jeffery Lurie, he would like the Birds front office to draft a new passer every other year, which means they are long overdue for grabbing one. The last quarterback the Eagles drafted was Wentz, which was back in 2016, so selecting a passer shouldn’t actually be all that surprising for the Eagles.

Nate Sudfeld will most likely be the Eagles’ backup, but he’s currently on a second-round tender. While he hasn’t proved a ton, Sudfeld could surprisingly have some interest on the free agent market next year as a potential starter on a desperate team. And we all know how much the Eagles value a backup quarterback nowadays. Drafting and developing Will Grier wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.
