Te’Von Coney, LB, Notre Dame

Round 5, Pick 163

If you were expecting a linebacker to get picked early on then, you are on the wrong mock draft. As much as the Eagles seem to be in need of an inside linebacker to fill in for Jordan Hicks, they just simply aren’t going to prioritize finding his replacement. With Nigel Bradham being the heart of the position, the Eagles view the middle linebacker role as expendable.

If they can get solid special teamers (Kamu Grugier-Hill, L.J. Fort) to become somewhat productive on the defensive side of the ball, then they aren’t going to be spending big on the position by any means. If they really cared about the position that much, they wouldn’t have let Jordan Hicks walk without an immediate backup plan.

However, I don’t believe the Eagles will entirely neglect the position through the draft. Notre Dame’s Te’Von Coney isn’t an over-the-top athlete, but he could mix in well with the Eagles rotation at linebacker. And who knows, maybe he becomes a pleasant surprise at the position.
