Donnell Greene, OT, Minnesota

Round 6, Pick 197

In this draft, I believe the Eagles will be on the hunt for Jason Peters’ replacement. Unfortunately, the cards didn’t fall in the right place for them. Will the Eagles get aggressive and trade up for a replacement they really like? It’s absolutely possible. But in this case, no moves were made. So instead of reaching on a guy in the early rounds, they decided to grab Donnell Greene.

With Greene, the Eagles probably aren’t viewing him as the long-term answer at the position. He would most likely battle for backup reps along with Vaitai and Mailata. Or even better, maybe he gets moved to the guard position, where the Eagles have a need for depth – especially with Brandon Brooks currently nursing a torn Achilles.

A guy like Greene wouldn’t come in and make an immediate impact, but he could develop over time at either guard or tackle and become a reliable depth player over time. As a sixth-rounder, he won’t have high expectations, which could end up working in his favor after getting help from Eagles’ offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland.
