Philadelphia Eagles officially re-sign Stefen Wisniewski: 3 Immediate reactions

This should make quite a few Philadelphia Eagles happy. Interior offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski has flown back to the nest.

See? We weren’t the only ones who thought it. We asked a little over a week ago if a reunion was in the cards. Some agreed. Some didn’t, but in the end the team agreed. That, as you know, is all that matters. The Philadelphia Eagles strengthened their offensive line yet again. This time, they did so by adding a familiar face, interior lineman Stefen Wisniewski.

As of 10 AM on Monday morning, a little after the pancakes and eggs began to digest for much of the east coast, there hadn’t been an official statement by ‘The Birds’, but several sources confirmed the signing.

Most often, you can take a man’s word and run with that. Perhaps the best source to consider would be ‘Wiz’ himself. We’ve covered that base as well, and if that wasn’t good enough, the Eagles finally made a statement on the matter.

Here are three immediate reactions.

1. Philly shouldn’t have a ton of issues earning the title of the best offensive line in the NFL.

Goal number one for Philly seems to be keeping Carson Wentz upright. They’ve done that with the drafting of Andre Dillard, bringing back ‘Wiz’ and adding undrafted talent to compete. Prior to Philly’s first-ever Super Bowl victory, the Eagles took home the honor of best offensive line at The NFL Honors.

If they can stay relatively healthy, they shouldn’t have a problem being seen as that again.

2. Two guys are in, and two are out.

Prior to Wisniewski’s signing, there was another on Sunday, that of quarterback Cody Kessler. Read here for the skinny on that one. Philly, by signing those two, had to clear two roster spaces. They did so by saying goodbye to former Alliance quarterback Luis Perez and running back Nico Evans.

3. We, at ITI, now write a retraction of some sorts.

Last week, we released an early 53-man roster projection. Wisniewski’s name wasn’t on it. What’s funny is we started to put his name on there anyway because we knew he’d be back. We decided against it. We were wrong (or right depending how you look at it). We’ve added him now.

Now, here’s our updated predictions for who’s making the team on the offensive line. We want to go with ten guys, but we’ll keep it at nine (for now):

Andre Dillard, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, ‘Big V’ aka Halapoulivaati Vaitai (we haven’t given up on him yet), Brandon Brooks, Isaac Seumalo, Matt Pryor, Stefen Wisniewski, Jason Kelce. Here’s another way too early prediction. Jordan Mailata gets cut, but he’s signed to the practice squad a day later. We officially open the debate table for that one.
