Philadelphia Eagles Roundup: OTA Absences and injury updates
We examine a few notable injuries and absences on this edition of Philadelphia Eagles Roundup. Is there any major significance?
Injuries are a part of the game. Any Philadelphia Eagles fan knows that, and they know that if no other fan base is aware. Carson Wentz being on the field and being a one-hundred percent participant has been all the rage as OTAs progress, but there were a few noticeable absences when ‘The Birds’ took the field one day after Memorial Day.
Is there any cause for concern? Let’s take a look at what’s been going on.
As mentioned, injuries are a part of the game. Most of the guys on Philly’s squad have been making sure they’ve paid attention to their diet, workout regimen, and everything else related to getting them into playing shape, but nothing prepares you physically for playing the game of football like, well, playing the game of football.
There aren’t any pads at the moment, but crank the heat up and run a few 7-on-7 drills, and things are going to tweak here and there will be some aches and pains.
Derek Barnett, Brandon Brooks, Nigel Bradham, Corey Clement, Ronald Darby, Mack Hollins, Jalen Mills, and Rodney McLeod are all among the guys we haven’t seen participating. Paul Worrilow and Nathan Gerry were participants a week ago but sat out on Tuesday’s on-field drills.
Then, there’s those guys who everyone keeps asking about: Alshon Jeffery, Malcolm Jenkins, Lane Johnson, and Jason Peters. For the vets, it’s a little different. This is something they’ve seen over and over, and you really can’t teach an old guy new tricks. Then, there’s another thing we don’t mention as much, good old ‘Father Time’.
In the case of these guys, all locker room leaders, there are other things to consider. As Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz mentioned in his Tuesday presser, with some guys rest is very important at this time of the year. With Jenkins, there’s a looming contract issue. That may play into his absence as well.
‘General Schwartz’ isn’t concerned about the vets. Jenkins’ teammates aren’t worried about whether or not he’ll be there when they need him, but everyone can agree on one thing. They definitely need him. Everyone’s paying attention to how quickly that can get worked out.
To make long stories short, it’s the same old story at OTAs. Some guys are present. Some aren’t, but there isn’t anything major to worry about attendance wise, other than a star rookie running back, Miles Sanders, being MIA for what we’ve finally been told is a hamstring issue. It appears he’ll be fine though.
