Philadelphia Eagles pass rush may not need to worry about Trent Williams
One of the NFC East’s best left tackles might be M.I.A. when the Philadelphia Eagles meet the Washington Redskins in 2019’s regular season.
There are several rules that will always ring true when it comes to football, NFL football or otherwise. One relates to match ups. There will never be an offensive or defensive strategy that doesn’t rely on mismatches or taking advantage of another team’s weakness. When the Philadelphia Eagles meet the Washington Redskins in 2019, they benefit from one of those advantages.
What if there was a possibility that, when these two divisional foes locked horns, one of the best tackles in the game wasn’t on the field. Well, Eagles fans may get their wish.
It appears Trent Williams has asked that the team find a way to let him explore an NFL future void of a Redskins jersey. Washington’s already begun the mandatory portion of their minicamp, and according to sources, including CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, he’s upset with the way they handled a medical issue he had in the offseason.
Take a look:
As if that isn’t bad enough, Williams has yet to show up for camp. Wait. Everyone heard the part about this being mandatory right?
These things get ironed out from time to time, but apparently the seven-time Pro Bowl selection is of the mindset that he’s prepared to skip the 2019 season if necessary. Those hoping for big years from everyone involved in the Eagles’ pass rush will be happy to hear that.
Hey, Vinny Curry and Derek Barnett are looking for a bounce back years. Josh Sweat‘s looking for a breakout season, and there’s excitement building around rookie Shareef Miller. Who knows how things are going to work out between the ‘Skins and Mr. Williams, but one thing is certain.
If he isn’t present for one or both of the Eagles annual clashes with their foes from the nation’s capital, Jim Schwartz‘s guys may be looking at a field day.
