After plenty of back and forth, the Philadelphia Eagles will, indeed, lose Joe Douglas after all. He’ll sign as the Jets new GM.

Well, this had to be expected. Well, didn’t it? Once we all heard the New York Jets and the now-former Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel Joe Douglas weren’t too far apart in terms of their negotiations, there had to be something inside of you that said the Jets would bend, and Douglas would get his money.

Here we are, not even 48 hours later, and the two sides have found a way to make it work. The Jets bluffed. Douglas called it, and when both sides laid their cards down, the guy who helped Philly orchestrate their last three drafts got what he wanted.

Here’s some insight from the NFL Network’s Adam Schefter:

Douglas’ legacy in Philly will, for now, be tied to three drafts. He worked closely with Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman, and he was a major force in making sure guys like Derek Barnett, Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones, Dallas Goedert, and Avonte Maddox landed in Eagles green.

In 2019, ‘The Birds’ added five more names to the nest: Andre Dillard (perhaps the second-best offensive tackle in 2019’s draft), Miles Sanders, JJ Arcega-Whiteside (a possible Alshon Jeffery clone), Shareef Miller, and Clayton Thorson.

It’s too early to tell what any of these guys will become, but in each, you can find reasons to be excited for the future. Prior to his time in Philly, Douglas was the director of college scouting for the Chicago Bears in 2015. That followed 16 seasons of work in the Baltimore Ravens’ personnel department, where he cut his teeth under another legend for finding talent, Ozzie Newsome.

Next. Zach Ertz is headed to France. dark

He, now, rejoins a good friend, Jets head coach Adam Gase as he’ll see if he can finally take the city of New York away from the crosstown Giants. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s what happens.
