QB. (1941-50). Tommy Thompson. 6. player. 54.

Like many Eagles’ quarterbacks back in the day, Tommy Thompson was on and off as a starter in Eagles’ green. Although Thompson didn’t remain the starter always, he still did a lot of extraordinary things for Philly. During the pre-Super Bowl era, the Eagles were present for a few championships. Thanks to Thompson, the Eagles made it to the NFL Championship three years in a row.

In 1948, the Eagles were led to the NFL Championship by Thompson’s league-leading 25 touchdown passes. That year, they took home the hardware. The following season, the Eagles won the championship once again. Although they didn’t win it all in 1947, their back-to-back victories the following seasons meant a lot to the Philadelphia franchise.

When it was all said and done, Thompson wrapped up his Eagles career with some impressive feats. A one-time Pro Bowler and a two-time champion to go along with his 10,240 passing yards and 91 touchdowns.

Nowadays, we don’t hear Thompson’s name enough when discussing Eagles history. It’s understandable considering that Thompson wasn’t around for the Lombardi Trophy era, but he sure gave the older generation some big reasons to celebrate.

And just remember Eagles fans, Thompson was the first championship-winning quarterback to wear No. 11. Although we fully expect Carson Wentz to bring some hardware back to Philly a couple of times in his career, we still can’t forget the first No. 11 to do so; that’s Thompson.
