Might a meeting between Ezekiel Elliott and Roger Goodell mean the Philadelphia Eagles face a Cowboys team in Week 7 that won’t have their star running back in the lineup?

It may seem like forever ago, and it may be hard to believe now. Once upon a time, the Philadelphia Eagles had the second-overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, and there was, actually some discussion as to whether or not they’d go with a can’t-miss running back over a franchise quarterback.

It wasn’t much of a discussion, but it was one that did exist.

Philly had seemingly learned from a similar debate that raged in 1999’s NFL Draft. In that one, Eagles fans were of the hope their team would take running back Ricky Williams over quarterback Donovan McNabb. That didn’t happen, and Philly made a wise decision in that one.

This time around, the overwhelming theme was ‘The Birds’ would take the man they thought could grow into their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz.

Still, even with the knowledge of that, there was a small contingent in the fan base that thought the better option was taking Ezekiel Elliott. Hindsight may have 20-20 vision, but Philly’s fan base is all on board now. Thank goodness that didn’t happen.

‘Zeke’ has all of the talent in the world, but these days, it seems like he’s in the news for the wrong reasons just a tad too much. On Monday, multiple sources including ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported he’s scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in relation to the May incident in Las Vegas, one where he was detained in relation to bumping into a security guard who fell to the ground.

Here’s that tweet:

Elliott was also seen having an argument with his girlfriend when he turned his attention to said security guard. That portion of the incident was caught on video.

Based on Goodell’s findings, ‘Zeke’ could be suspended if he’s found to be in violation of the league’s conduct policy. The last time he found himself in this situation, in 2017, he was suspended for six games. Being that this is yet another offense, and seeing as how Goodell hasn’t always needed for a player to be arrested to impose punishment, the consequences could be more stern this time around.

Let’s say it’s eight games this time as opposed to six (Eliiott’s punishment for his prior offense). That would mean he’d miss the Dallas Cowboys‘ divisional clash with the Eagles. You’d like to think everyone’s desire is he’s available so the Eagles can beat the Cowboys at full strength and there’s no excuses, but if he isn’t available, one thing can be said with certainty. There isn’t one Eagles fan who will lose any sleep.
