Philadelphia Eagles talk: Comparing Carson Wentz’s numbers to the G.O.A.T.’s
Yep, we’re taking it there. We’re going to take some of the Carson Wentz’s numbers and compare them to the G.O.A.T.’s. Philadelphia Eagles fans are going to love this one.
It’s a term that we’ve all become familiar with, the G.O.A.T. That means ‘The Greatest of All Time’ for the uninitiated. If you’re an NFL fan, you can throw in the names of the greats, Joe Montana, John Elway, Warren Moon, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning and others. Many of us would probably admit the title of G.O.A.T. belongs to one man, Tom Brady. If you’re a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, you’re probably sitting somewhere reading this and hoping that title, one day, belongs to Carson Wentz.
To quote one of our favorite athletes of all time, Ric Flair, ‘to be the man, you have to beat the man’. If Wentz is to one day join football’s ‘Mount Rushmore’ (currently we can throw the faces of Montana, Brady, Walter Payton and Jim Brown up there), he’s going to have to catapult himself into the same stratosphere as Brady.
He only needs five more Super Bowls, 5,081 completions, 447 career passing touchdowns, and 60,362 career passing yards to catch up. There’s just one problem. Brady isn’t finished adding to his personal totals.
Curse you Tom!
With that being said, let’s look at where Wentz is in comparison to where Brady was at the same time in his career. You might find this interesting.
Carson Wentz (years one through three)
Career games: 40 Completions: 923 Attempts: 1,448 Career Completion Percentage: 63.7 Career Passing Yards: 10,152 Touchdowns: 70 Interceptions: 28 Career Quarterback Rating: 92.5
Tom Brady (years one through three)… We’ll begin in year two.. Nothing happened as a rookie..
Career games: 47 Completions: 954 Attempts: 1,541 Career Completion Percentage: 62.1 Career Passing Yards: 10,227 Touchdowns: Interceptions: 69 Career Quarterback Rating: 86
Take that for what you think it’s worth, but if ’11’ can stay healthy, we may be in for a treat. Oh and by the way, Wentz is probably going to obliterate Brady’s career rushing total. As of now, he’s halfway there. Wentz sits on 542 yards. Brady has 1,003 for his career.
Donovan McNabb is, statistically, the greatest quarterback in Eagles history. Randall Cunningham is a category all his own. Tommy Thompson and Norm Van Brocklin hold a special place in the heart of every Eagles fan for obvious reasons. Some even place Nick Foles in the top spot of Eagles quarterbacks.
One thing’s certain. There’s a little McNabb, Cunningham, Thompson, Foles, and Norm Van Brocklin in ’11’. The ‘Wentz Wagon’ figures to roll through Philadelphia for a while. Will he find his way into that Brady stratosphere? Time will tell, but we can say one thing with certainty. He’s off to a good start.
