According to CBS Sports, the Philadelphia Eagles still have a top ten safety in Malcolm Jenkins as they head into the 2019 NFL Season.

This year, the Philadelphia Eagles are potentially on track to becoming a dominant NFL squad once again. Last year, they had some hiccups, and injuries caused most of their problems. But just in case injuries occur once again, Howie Roseman and the front office created a roster that is built to last and battle through anything.

Now, after a long offseason of making new acquisitions and retaining some players, it’s time for the Eagles to take care of their own. You know the story of this offseason — Will the Eagles pay Malcolm Jenkins or not? The veteran safety isn’t going into a contract year, but the new market for safeties has been making the defensive captain feel a bit underappreciated.

Therefore, Jenkins has made it clear behind closed doors that he wants a new contract. Although he didn’t hold out from any mandatory portions of the offseason, the talks are still ongoing. And as the negotiations unfold, Jenkins continues to get recognition during the offseason for his solid play as of late.

According to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, Jenkins remains a top-ten safety in the NFL. While we already knew Jenkins was up there with the best of them, this list just reassures us that Jenkins does deserve a better contract if he feels that is necessary — because without him, the Eagles defense could take a major step back.

Where does Jenkins rank?

According to CBS Sports, Jenkins is viewed as the seventh-best safety in the game. Along with some other aging veterans such as Eric Weddle and Devin McCourty, Jenkins found himself outside of the top five range. Here’s the explanation:

"“Like McCourty, he’s [Jenkins] been doing it the right way for Super Bowl contenders for a while now. Jenkins’ turnover totals aren’t outrageous, but he’s good in the clutch, solid all-around and maybe the most versatile of this bunch. A model of both leadership and durability, he’s also probably the most underpaid of the group.”"

Jenkins joined the Eagles as an established veteran and immediately took on a leadership role on and off the field. Since his arrival, he hasn’t missed a single game. And last year, he didn’t miss a single defensive snap. The keywords in Jenkins’ explanation here would be “probably the most underpaid.” At this point, the Eagles likely see it that way as well, which just gives them more reason to figure out this situation and make Jenkins happy moving forward.
