Former Philadelphia Eagles special teams ace Chris Maragos heads into surgery for the third time since his injury.

In a few months, it will mark two years since former Philadelphia Eagles safety Chris Maragos took the football field. Back in 2017, Maragos was the ferocious leader of the Eagles special teams. Although he played a minimal role, he was still considered to be one of the most respected leaders within the Philadelphia locker room. Unfortunately, the team lost him prematurely.

We all remember 2017 like it was yesterday. The year the Philadelphia Eagles managed to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. While we tend to remember the good times, and only picture Nick Foles hoisting the Lombardi trophy in our heads, we tend to forget the struggles of that season from time to time beyond Carson Wentz’s torn ACL.

Similar to the Eagles’ 2018 season, the team had to deal with a ton of setbacks at key positions. We all remember Wentz’s injury in 17′ along with Darren Sproles, Jason Peters, and Jordan Hicks. However, many forgot that the Eagles lost their special teams captain at the time as well. Maragos ended up dealing with a non-contact knee injury, which sent him into surgery and sidelined him for the rest of the year.

Assuming Maragos would return once again at some point in 2018, nobody asked too many questions. Over time though, his absence with a lack of updates from the coaching staff concerned many. As it turns out, Maragos struggled to fully heal from his injury, which sent him back into surgery for a second time following the 2018 season.

The Eagles were left with no choice but to release Maragos, in order to save up cap space. But it seems as though there’s more to it than just saving some money.

Maragos is still in recovery

On Tuesday morning, the former Eagles special teamer took to Twitter to announce that he’s going under the knife for the third time in less than two years. While Maragos thanked everybody for the continued support, he didn’t exactly go into details of what’s going on besides the fact he’s getting another procedure done. It’s unfortunate, but it seems like Maragos playing days are likely behind him at this point. Hopefully, the third time is truly a charm for the former Eagle.
