After winning four postseason games in two years, how much pressure are the Philadelphia Eagles under, going into the 2019 NFL season?

Every year, Philadelphia Eagles fans expect a ton out of the team. Even when going to the Super Bowl has been unrealistic in the past, Eagles fans would always tend to trick themselves into thinking the team was legitimate contenders. I mean, it’s understandable. During the early years of the Andy Reid era, the Eagles were close enough every time to think next season would be better.

Unfortunately, Andy Reid couldn’t fulfill Philadelphia’s dreams of winning a Super Bowl. And by the time 2011 rolled around, Reid was coming up on his final days as the head honcho. Then came the breath of fresh air that was Chip Kelly. At first, it seemed as though the Eagles were on to something with Chip as they made the playoffs in year one.

We all know how that worked out, though. The Eagles ended up canning Kelly after three years and proceeded with a questionable coaching hire in Doug Pederson. Year one with Pederson proved everybody right as the Eagles went 7-9. The following year he shut everybody up though. As many believed the Eagles were far away from a Super Bowl run, they accomplished the unthinkable one year after missing the playoffs and coming in last place within the NFC East.

The Eagles believed they were primed for a repeat in 2018, but injuries and other factors led to what seems to be a Super Bowl hangover ultimately. So the Birds weren’t as dominant in 2018, but they still managed to win a playoff game, which notched number four in two years. Knowing that information, the pressure is undoubtedly off from the Eagles this season.

Who’s under pressure within the division though?

CBS Sports writer Jason La Canfora listed all 32 NFL teams in order depending on the pressure they are under heading into the 2019 season. Out of 32, the Eagles came 30th on the list. “They just won a freaking Super Bowl. In Philly. And their best player is fully healthy for the first time in like two years. Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson are the first coach/exec in Eagles history not to be on some sort of a hot seat,” La Canfora wrote.

Some may say it’s Super Bowl or bust for the Birds in 2019, but if they happen to bust, the city surely won’t lose its mind. After all, their last Super Bowl is still fresh enough to be played on DVRs, DVDs, and Blu Rays. It must feel good knowing the pressure is off. But the rest of the division can’t really say the same.

The Washington Redskins were 10th on the list, and their operations were described as being “generally a mess.” While the Dallas Cowboys have high expectations for this year, the pressure seems to be weighing in on some there as well. They came on the list at No. 3, as their head coach Jason Garrett is “coaching for his life.”

Who’s under the second-most amount of pressure according to CBS? Yup, you guessed it — the New York football Giants. Will it be Eli Manning or Daniel Jones this year? Will Pat Shurmur survive another rough season? Could the Giants seriously keep Dave Gettleman in the front office again after all the damage he’s done thus far? So many questions elsewhere, but it’s refreshing knowing the Eagles steered clear of all this crazy drama within the East for the time being for once.
