Philadelphia Eagles: Here’s what experts say about a Melvin Gordon trade
We’ve explained our thought process. Here are a few others.
Justin Reyes is a contributor for Bolt Beat. That’s FanSided‘s site dedicated to the Chargers. Recently, he penned a piece on the Eagles being a serious player in what may turn out to be the Gordon sweepstakes, and while many have thought about Agholor and Vaitai as trade bait, there haven’t been man who have thought about moving former rugby star Jordan Mailata.
Here’s some of his theory.
"One player the Chargers should absolutely ask about is Jordan Mailata. While Mailata has limited football experience (he was an Australian rugby player turned 2018 7th-round draft pick), he has benefitted from having all of last season to learn how to be an NFL offensive lineman and apparently, his progress and potential is starting to draw rave reviews."
12Up’s Brendan Azoff listed the Baltimore Ravens, the Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers, and the Eagles as potential trade partners. Here’s his theory on why Philly is in the mix.
"The Eagles brought in Jordan Howard this offseason, but the former Chicago Bear has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career. After seeing a rash of injury problems the past two years, the Eagles understand how important depth is, and adding Melvin Gordon could put their offense on another level next season."
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Achefter was among the first to tell us Gordon’s prepared to sit out of camp if he doesn’t get new deal.
Might the Chargers hold him hostage, or could they be of the idea that they’d rather get something for him if he is, indeed, leaving? That’s the NFL way. There hasn’t been a ton of pevidence to prove this, but we know teams are interested and inquiring. We also know Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman is always working.
Roseman will do his due dilligence. If there’s a way for Gordon to join the Eagles, he will, but it must be feasible. Whether or not it will be is the question. This is a long way from being over.
