Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has high hopes for his future with the team.

Back in 2016, NFL wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was donning a dark blue uniform representing the Chicago Bears. The former second-round pick was wrapping up his fifth season in the NFL. It was unclear what the future had in store for Jeffery, but one thing was for sure — he wasn’t going to continue his career with the Bears beyond their disappointing 2016 season.

A fresh start was necessary for Jeffery, and he was given the opportunity to search for one as he became a free agent ahead of the 2017 season. That year, Jeffery was arguably the biggest free agent wideout available on the market. So clearly, he was going to get tons of attention from teams. Ultimately, it came down to two teams. The Minnesota Vikings, or the Eagles.

At the time, the Vikings offered Jeffery a multi-year deal, which involved more money. The Eagles, on the other hand, promised Jeffery a one-year deal with the opportunity to earn an even better multi-year deal than the Vikings initially offered. Jeffery chose to gamble on himself.

Therefore, he signed with the Eagles. Not only did Jeffery earn himself a four-year extension midway through the 2017 season — but he also finished the year off with a Super Bowl victory. Ironically enough, the Eagles defeated the Vikings en route to play Super LII in Minnesota.

How’s Philly treating Jeffery?

Jeffery is heading into his third season in Philadelphia, and so far everything seems to be going great. Over the last two seasons, Jeffery totaled for 1,632 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. With at least two more seasons to go, Jeffery is likely to remain in Philly through 2021 and will become a free agent at age 32.

At that point, the Eagles could look to bring Jeffery back, or turn a page and go younger. But seeing as though the Eagles don’t really avoid bringing in players based on their age, there could be a good chance Jeffery has the opportunity to wrap up his career in Philly, and the veteran wideout doesn’t seem opposed to the idea. In fact, he embraces it.

According to NJ.com’s Zack Rosenblatt, Jeffery has enjoyed his time in Philadelphia so far. As he’s in search for another Super Bowl victory in 2019, Jeffery also took the time to appreciate the Philadelphia fan base and their reactions to his unfortunate drop in the playoffs last year, which resulted in an interception, wrapping the season up.

“I definitely appreciated them. It meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to my family as well. It was huge. But at the same time, I gotta move on from it. There’s always next year to get better. This year hopefully we’ll be holding up another trophy.” What will happen beyond Jeffery’s four-year contract in Philadelphia? Nobody knows.

However, he did mention that like Darren Sproles, Jeffery is hopeful he can finish off his career in Philadelphia. Seeing as though he was such a major factor in the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory, that most likely won’t be a problem. After all, the Eagles are always open to forming reunions if the move truly makes sense. Perhaps it will when the time comes.
