USA Today predicts that the Philadelphia Eagles will have a good season. Unfortunately, they don’t see them as Super Bowl LIV champions though.

The 2019 NFL season is over a month away, but training camp kicks off this week. In a matter of a few days, the Philadelphia Eagles will be back in action at the Nova Care Complex preparing for a comeback season. Last year, the Eagles did a lot better than expected in the postseason. But the way they went out has them hungry for more in 2019.

It all starts this week when the team begins the tough part of the offseason. OTAs and minicamp went well for the veterans and the new guys, but now it is time to separate the real contributors from the dead weight. A few years back, the Eagles were heading into the new years with hopes of just making the playoffs. Nowadays, they are held to a much higher standard.

Underdogs no more in Philly. Over the last couple of months, the Eagles have been viewed as one of the top teams to beat, more often than not. Many major publications have mentioned they have arguably one of the best rosters in the league. And some are going as far as making bold claims, such as the Eagles will win the NFC Championship this year in the playoffs.

Recently, USA Today’s Nate Davis put together his total predictions on the NFL season. Who’s winning what division with which record, and who’s going to the playoffs, championships, Super Bowl, etc. As expected, the Eagles came out with a favorable prediction in the piece. With a predicted record of 11-5, the Eagles would clinch the NFC East.

Looking into the predictons

"“They’ve added intriguing pieces (DT Malik Jackson, WR DeSean Jackson and RBs Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders). They’ve got promising youngsters like TE Dallas Goedert and CB Sidney Jones poised for bigger roles. And CB Ronald Darby, DE Derek Barnett and, of course, QB Carson Wentz return from injury to rejoin a championship-proven nucleus. Could be special if it all comes together. And December should be fun with the Iggles’ final four games against divisional foes.”"

In this scenario, the Eagles become the only NFC East representatives in the playoffs, unlike last year when they joined the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. Here, the Eagles are predicted to lock in the third seed, behind the Minnesota Vikings and the Atlanta Falcons. In round one of the playoffs, the Eagles defeat the sixth-seeded New Orleans Saints for some payback from last year.

Then, the Eagles knock off the second-seeded Atlanta Falcons in the divisional round just two years after doing so in 2017. That’s when the Eagles would get a postseason rematch with the Chicago Bears, and once again, the Birds land in the Super Bowl. Except for this time, the outcome will not be the same as two years ago.

The Los Angeles Chargers are predicted to beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LIV, according to USA Today. Depending on whether they can get past the overload of injuries on their squad or not, the Chargers are anticipating a big season. And in Nate Davis’ article, he sees the Chargers doing so, and getting past the Indianapolis Colts, and the New England Patriots in the AFC.
