Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz drops 93 spots on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players ranking. He goes from being third on 2018’s list to being 96th in 2019.
Maybe it’s legitimate. Maybe there’s a bit of overraction involved, but expect there to be a few guys and gals gathered around coffee pots and water coolers to discuss what happened on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2019. That’s especially true if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan or if you’re just a fan of Carson Wentz.
‘The Wentz Wagon’ rolled in for an early appearance as Philly’s franchise quarterback plummeted from a ranking of third on 2018’s list to being named the 96th best player on 2019’s version.

Really?
Don’t blame injuries. He tore his MCL and ACL in 2017 before finding his way into the top five last year. Here we are, a full calendar cycle later, and a list comprised of votes by his peers lands him just a few spots from being voted off of the list entirely.
Should we call this list legitimate, or should we state that this lands in the area of overraction? Here’s an argument for both sides.
We say this all of the time at ITI. Opinions are typically only as valuable as one’s knowlege of the subject.
If it’s a player ranking, we have to go with the opinions of players, but to know a guy was legitimately an MVP candidate before a devastating knee injury, to see him have back issues a year later, and, then, see him get completely healthy and get thrown back in the MVP discussion tells us something.
To some extent, players are just like fans. They can be swayed into believing the last thing they saw tells the entire story. Wentz didn’t forget how to play because he had a knee and back injury, but maybe there’s a little ‘out of sight, out of mind’ playing into Wentz’s ranking on this list.
That’s okay. We’re sure all of those Eagles fans didn’t throw away those dog masks.
