Philadelphia Eagles training camp has officially begun on Thursday with a short session. How did the second session on Friday go?

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles entire 90-man roster showed up to the Nova Care Complex to check-in for the 2019 Philadelphia Eagles training camp. Although no actual practice sessions were going down on check-in day, the Eagles would soon be back to the building at noon on Thursday for the first official practice of the summer.

As expected, Doug Pederson and the coaching staff gave the team a light day. They practiced for about an hour or so with pretty much no contact at all. Since the team has had such a long break from minicamp until now, they will be eased back into the flow of the game as time goes on.

There were some positive takeaways from the first day. For starters, the team is relatively healthy. Out of 90 guys, only one entered camp on the PUP list. It happened to be veteran cornerback, Jalen Mills. Other big names such as Fletcher Cox, Nigel Bradham, Brandon Brooks, and Ronald Darby were all in attendance and suited up, but not quite ready to run with the team fully yet.

Other key takeaways were the fact that second-round rookie Miles Sanders was getting reps after missing the entire spring. Once again, Carson Wentz and DeSean Jackson have built up a strong, on-field connection, and veteran signee Darren Sproles is still looking good at 36-years-old in his 15th training camp. Now, day two is in the books. Let’s check out the highlights from the second practice session from Friday morning, in the eyes of the insiders.

A new/old face is dealing with an undisclosed injury

The Eagles drafted safety Blake Countess in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He never hit his stride early on with the Eagles. Therefore, he never even ended up making the team. After spending a couple of seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, Countess found himself back on the Eagles and fighting for the third or fourth safety spot on the depth. So far though, his battle is off to a bad start as he suffered an undisclosed injury on day one of practice.

Some Cre’Von LeBlanc rumors?

NJ Advanced Media’s Mike Kaye didn’t have a source confirm what he tweeted. However, the Eagles beat writer had a logical assumption come to mind when he noticed that veteran cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc was not present for the second day of practice. The Eagles are loaded up with cornerback depth. And with a healthy Sidney Jones, the Eagles have two stellar nickel cornerbacks in Jones and LeBlanc.

Solid nickel cornerbacks are hard to come by in the NFL. So if another team is on the hunt for one, they could be calling for Ce’Von LeBlanc. He was healthy during day one of practice, but absent during day two. Could a deal be coming soon? Apparently not. Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz confirmed that LeBlanc’s absence was injury-related. No further details provided.

Wentz and Jackson are attached to the hip

Before practice, Carson Wentz and DeSean Jackson were making small talk and getting a light workout in. After practice, it’s the same scenario. Apparently, Wentz and Jackson have been attached to the hip ever since mincamp last month. We’ve seen Wentz have this kind of chemistry with his tight end Zach Ertz in the past. Now, he seems to be making a strong connection with his new wideout.

Josh Sweat packed on the pounds this offseason

Second-year defensive end Josh Sweat had an underwhelming rookie season. At first, he was buried on the depth chart. Then when injuries occurred, he was forced into a rotational role, which eventually caused him to injure his knee, ending his season.

This year, Sweat is under some heavy pressure. As Michael Bennett was traded, and Chris Long retired, the former fourth-rounder will be expected to contribute much more in year two. He put on some pounds to get bigger, but hopefully, that won’t slow him down, or even worse, cause another injury in the long run.
