Ertz’s Earned Endorsement
In 2018, Ertz caught eight touchdowns for 1,163 yards, on 116 receptions. He became the first player in Eagles’ history to catch over 100 passes in a season.
As you know, that history dates back to 1933. The 116 receptions were the most by a tight end, and the second most in all the NFL, at any position. This mark also broke the record for a tight end of 110 set by Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys in 2012.
Speaking of Witten, the future Hall of Famer hung up his headset in the Monday Night Football booth for a pair of cleats and will be returning to the gridiron. While broadcasting the Eagles week 13 matchup against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football last season, he stated in the waning years of his career he would actually study tape on Ertz to try and see if the old dog can learn new tricks.
That’s a pretty strong testimonial when it comes to greatness at the position, and it’s intriguing to think if he will continue to do so now that he’ll be back on the field.
