Sidney Jones is heading into a make-or-break year with the Philadelphia Eagles heading into 2019’s regular season.

The 2019 season is a pivotal one for a young Philadelphia Eagles cornerback. Sidney Jones is in a make-or-break type of situation heading into his third NFL season. Jones, who was a two-time All-Pac 12 First-Team member out of the University of Washington, has yet to make the impact many expected of him when he was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The third-year player was a first-round talent before tearing his Achilles on his Pro Day just months before the draft. That made him a diamond-in-the-rough type of project with major upside. unfortunately, that upside has yet to truly be seen outside of practice sessions.

Jones missed all but one game, the final one, of his rookie campaign. Then, he missed all of the playoffs during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. He looked to be recovered from the injury last season, playing in the first six games of the campaign (that included one start), but he’d be hit by the injury bug versus the New York Giants.

That forced him to the sidelines with a hamstring injury, and he never truly found his footing again, playing in only nine games for the remainder of the season. He showed signs of promise when he was on the field, finishing the regular season with 25 tackles, but he only played around 33 percent of the team’s snaps.

On a team looking to bounce back and stay healthy after suffering one injury after another in the defensive backfield last season, Jones must find a way to stay on the field to help his team. Though he’s just 23 years old and two full seasons away from hitting free agency, Jones still has plenty to prove.

This young corner needs to show his team, their coaches, and their fans that he’s able to stay healthy. Jones needs to prove once again why he was once such a highly regarded prospect. Playing at a position where his team has some uncertainty but a plethora of talent, all of the question marks surrounding him can be answered, so long as he is available.
