It’s been a while since Philadelphia Eagles running back Corey Clement has taken the field. Soon, he will be back in action at camp.

One year after a surprisingly productive rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles, Corey Clement hit a rough patch. He went from being a close runner-up to winning Super Bowl MVP, to struggling in the backfield a season later. In 2018, Clement, by no means, was viewed as the top back in the rotation. But he was looking to take back his third-back role where he was quite successful the previous year as the Eagles made a run for the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, Clement’s strange season ended in the worst way possible — with an injury. In 2018, Clement appeared in 11 games for the Eagles. One season after averaging 4.3 yards-per-carry, Clement saw a decrease in production as he averaged 3.8 yards-per-carry in 2018. And when two injuries to the top of the depth chart occurred, Clement visibly failed to meet expectations as the Eagles struggled in the run game big time.

By the time Week 12 rolled around, Clement went down with an injury against the Dallas Cowboys, which affected his knee. Although details on the injury would be kept confidential by the Eagles training and coaching staff, they couldn’t hide the fact that Clement’s Sophomore season was ending prematurely. He would miss the rest of the 2018 season and playoff run.

An update from Clement himself

During the spring portion of the offseason, the Eagles still didn’t have much to say on Corey Clement. He didn’t participate at all, as he was still recovering. Even with a month off leading up to training camp, Clement still wouldn’t be ready for the summer practices. However, Clement is almost there. While he did appear in some 7-on-7 drills on Thursday, he’s still not a full-go.

When speaking with NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark on Thursday, Clement revealed that he “should be a full go hopefully in a week.” Obviously, the coach’s word would mean more than Clement’s in this case, but at least the running back is optimistic. It’s unclear if there’s any chance Clement will get some preseason snaps or not, but the third-year back did have plans of at least returning by the time week one rolls around.
