What bold move could the Philadelphia Eagles make before training camp concludes this offseason?

We’re well into a week of NFL training camp now. The Philadelphia Eagles have been putting in work, and next week they will have their first real test of the offseason with the preseason kicking off. We might still be in early August here, but you know that times flies when it’s football season. So before we know it, the Eagles will be hosting the Washington Redskins for week one.

In the next coming weeks, anything can happen though. As we know, the Eagles are far from shy when it comes to spontaneous moves from the front office. Ever since Howie Roseman took charge once again, the Eagles are always viewed as a team that is potentially looking to deal.

It’s been a while since the Eagles acquired anybody new via trade; so it’s only right everybody assumes that a new move could potentially happen soon. Recently, ESPN put together a list that contained one bold prediction for all 32 NFL teams before training camp is over. For the Eagles, their bold trade prediction was a distinct scenario that’s been discussed recently.

Could a defensive end come in soon?

"“One of the few questions about this roster is whether there is enough defensive end depth after Chris Long and Michael Bennett departed this season. Will GM Howie Roseman just cross his fingers at one of the most critical positions in football, or make a move before the start of the season? Knowing his aggressive mentality, the latter seems more likely.” — Tim McManus"

Lately, there have been talks about the Eagles making a deal for a pass rusher. With the trade of Michael Bennett and Chris Long’s retirement, the Eagles definitely lose some power on the edge. However, they did patch up one of the losses with Vinny Curry, who has proven to be a solid pass rusher on the outside, and reliable in stopping the run. But the uncertainty on the other side is still something to be a bit concerned about.

Next. Cre’Von LeBlanc could be out until November. dark

The Eagles have been hopeful that second-year defensive end’s Josh Sweat and Joe Ostman prove they can fill the void in the preseason. So far that has gone according to plan in practice, but nothing has been proven in a game setting yet. If they fail to impress, don’t be surprised to hear that Howie Roseman is working the phones.

After all, Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is still on the market as of now. There’s been tons of rumored interest from the Eagles. If Roseman can create a scenario where he gets Clowney at a discounted price, you better bet the Eagles will strike with a deal.
