Philadelphia Eagles veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill was carted off of the field on Saturday.

This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles were expected to hold an intense battle between linebackers on defense. With Nigel Bradham being the only returning starter from last season, the inside linebacker position will be a battle with Jordan Hicks out of the picture.

The Eagles signed an established veteran in Zach Brown, but he won’t be a lock for starting at the position if he visibly gets beat out at camp. So far, that has sort of been the case. Eagles’ linebackers Kamu Grugier-Hill, Nathan Gerry, and L.J. Fort have all had a solid offseason so far.

However, Grugier-Hill has stood out the most at the position. Every day, Grugier-Hill has been in on the action and making plays. Two years ago, Grugier-Hill was viewed as nothing more than a special teams player. But last season, he emerged as a solid rotational linebacker on defense.

This offseason, Grugier-Hill was putting up a serious fight for a starting spot so far, but he might’ve hit a roadblock on the way to stardom. On Saturday, the Eagles returned from a one day break and hosted yet another physical practice at the Nova Care Complex. And moments before practice ended, Grugier-Hill went down an apparent knee injury.

A description of the scene:

After going down with a knee injury, and getting up slowly, Grugier-Hill barely made it back to the sideline. Instead of walking on his own power back into the building, the Eagles medical team brought out the cart. Now, there’s no immediate word on the injury, but anytime a player gets carted off, it’s never an ideal situation.

After practice, Doug Pederson addressed the injury. He described it as a ‘lower-body’ injury, but the local media in attendance made it clear that Grugier-Hill did grab his knee after going down. The Eagles will further evaluate the situation, but so far the initial reports of what happened do not seem promising.
