Philadelphia Eagles roster hopeful Joe Ostman suffered an unfortunate knee injury, which will end his season prematurely.
All of the hype within the Philadelphia Eagles organization this offseason surrounded a young roster hopeful. Throughout the entire spring, the Eagles front office and coaching staff had nothing but good things to say about 2018 undrafted rookie free agent, Joe Ostman.
The former Central Michigan defensive end failed to get a call during the 2018 NFL Draft, but the Eagles quickly made a call to him with an offer shortly after the three-day event concluded. At the time, the Eagles were quite excited about Ostman’s potential as an undrafted rookie, but unfortunately, he failed to make the team when it was all said and done.
Ostman would stick around on the practice squad, which helped him develop with the team even further. So by the time a year rolled around since he’s been on the Eagles, the staff was quite excited about seeing what he would bring to the table during his Sophomore effort.
The hype surrounding Ostman was warranted, as he was off to a strong training camp this year. Granted, he was going against the teams’ backups, but he was still dominating every time he lined up in the trenches. This preseason would’ve been a great test for Ostman’s pro career, but now he hits a mightily unfortunate speed bump after suffering a knee injury in practice.
Ostman is headed to the IR
During Sunday’s open practice, multiple Eagles suffered injuries. However, Joe Ostman got the worst of it as he went down a knee injury during special teams drills. As it was taking a while for Ostman to pop back up after going down, the Eagles medical team decided to bring the cart out. So Ostman caught a ride back to the locker room, which is never a positive sign.
What was even worse was the fact that his Eagles teammates all surrounded the cart to check on him and make sure he was okay. Typically, that wouldn’t happen if the injury didn’t initially seem that serious. In this case, though, Ostman’s teammates knew. And just like that, Ostman’s potential breakout season ends prematurely as he gets placed on the Injured Reserve.
