Eagles head coach Doug Pederson followed the final session of training camp with a quick press conference. Here are five highlights.

Ladies and gentlemen, there were times when it seemed like it was taking forever. There were times when it seemed as though it was flying by, but the Philadelphia Eagles officially wrapped up their final training camp practice on Tuesday, August 3rd. Head coach Doug Pederson and his franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz, met with the media shortly thereafter.

The next time we see them in a football sense will probably be on Thursday, prior to their second preseason contest with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If you’ve been keeping up, you probably already knew where the questions were headed. There weren’t any major surprises, but we all got some decent info on the more talked about topics. Let’s not waste a ton of time. Here are a few highlights.

1. The starters probably won’t play again.

Right out of the box, Coach Pederson was asked about the possibility of Wentz starting on Thursday. As you’d imagine, we got the normally vague answer. According to Coach, the Eagles are still mulling that over.

Most of us would venture to say the prospect of losing ’11’ for any period of time would be an issue. Don’t be surprised if the starters are held out of this one like the were in the preseason opener.

2. Fletcher Cox is okay.

Apparently, Fletcher Cox is doing fine and should be ready come Week 1. The decision to hold him out has been a precaution and he’s been focused on rehabbing. Fortunately, there’s been nothing negative to report.

3. Don’t take too much from the fights.

The last two days of practice produced a couple of minor skirmishes. In both instances, cooler heads eventually prevailed. In both instances, rookie Andre Dillard was involved. Things got a little heated during practice in the heat of competition. All is forgiven now. This isn’t a major issue.

4. Carson Wentz’s mistakes should increase in camp.

In some circles, there’s been a small amount of talk about Carson Went’z ineffectiveness in a few minor areas (batted balls, interceptions by the guys on defense). This shouldn’t be overstated either.

The offense has been running a lot of the same stuff against the same defense all Summer. It should be more difficult on both sides as camp wears on. At some point, the guys on the other side of the ball know what you’re doing. This shouldn’t be a major area of concern either.

5. Situational areas must improve.

After several sessions, there’s a normal question that comes up in all of our thinking. What should Philly improve on? Coach Pederson wants his team better in those situational areas: third down, the red zone, forcing turnovers on defense.

As mentioned, Philly’s next preseason tilt pits them against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the same team they met in London a season ago. We expect a few fans of this team to be in front of the television or logging into a few streaming services for that one.
