Philadelphia Eagles veteran defensive end Brandon Graham told an interesting story about Nick Foles in 2017.

The Philadelphia Eagles 2017 season was one heck of a ride — a roller coaster, if you will. Some weeks, the team felt unstoppable. Other weeks, it felt like injuries were the main force that was going to put an end to the incredible run that they were on.

Surprisingly though, nothing could stop the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles from winning Super Bowl LII, and their backup quarterback can be thanked a million times for that. We’re not saying Carson Wentz didn’t have a hand in getting the Birds there, but if Nick Foles wasn’t in the picture for those final two games that year, who knows what would’ve happened.

From the moment he hoisted the Lombardi trophy, Nick Foles became a legend in Philadelphia. His story and his journey were flat out incredible. He went from getting traded, being benched, and becoming nothing more than a backup quarterback to eventually saving a season and being named the Super Bowl MVP in 2017.

For a moment, that storybook journey might’ve ended on that note. We never knew this before, but Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham recently revealed that Nick Foles actually contemplated retirement not too long after winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Foles almost called it quits

We all knew about Foles’ thoughts to potentially retire after his failed stint with the St. Louis Rams at the time. However, this is the first time we’ve heard about Foles possibly retiring after winning it all. Throughout his career, Nick Foles has dealt with elbow soreness.

For those who don’t remember, Foles did end up missing time in the offseason over the last two years because of it. Last year, Foles was struggling to get on the field in preseason, which could’ve caused him to lose faith in his ability to perform moving forward.

Obviously, we know that Foles pushed through as he started and finished the 2018 season for the Eagles. Now, he’s got his own offense once again down in Florida with Jacksonville Jaguars. So far, it sounds like Foles’ elbow issues are no longer a concern, which is great news for the veteran. This week, he will face the Eagles as an opponent for the first time in his career.
