On Thursday, ITI listed Josh McCown as a possible addition to the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback room after Cody Kessler suffered a possible concussion. He’s in, and here are three thoughts on the move.

When Josh McCown suits up for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, August 22nd, it will be the 11th NFL team that’s allowed him to be their signal-caller. It will be the 12th professional football team in total if you decide to count something called the Hartford Cardinals, where he played during the 2010 season.

On Thursday, following a possible concussion that was suffered by Cody Kessler (we still have yet to hear it called that by an official announcement), rookie Clayton Thorson had to go it alone for the full four quarters of Philly’s second preseason game.

Thorson showed poise, going 16 for 26 for 175 yards. He threw a touchdown and an interception. Still, you can’t ask him to stay in there for, at minimum, the next preseason game as we wait for Kessler to get back on the field or can you? We’ll discuss that more in detail later.

At this point, it would be ridiculous for Philly to roll the franchise, Carson Wentz, onto the field for a meaningless game. Philly’s also toyed, behind the scenes, with the idea of letting Greg Ward line up behind center (he was a quarterback during his time with the Houston Cougars).

He did throw a pass in that win in Duval County, and it almost wound up being an interception.

On Thursday, here at ITI, we listed five possible replacements of Kessler couldn’t go, and on Saturday, the Eagles decided to sign some insurance just in case something happens to Thorson, and it comes in the form of McCown. Here are three thoughts on that move.
