1. This is probably the best that they could have done given the market.
News of McCown’s signing came shortly after breakfast on the East Coast as many people on the westside were just getting up to start their day. Here’s the official report from Adam Schefter and a little bonus info.
Josh McCown had said if the right opportunity came along, he would consider it. Now it has. He is signing a 1-year deal with Eagles.

Eagles still expect Nate Sudfeld - who received a second-round tender last off-season - to return from injury this season; team still values him.
Compensation update: Eagles are giving Josh McCown a one-year deal that includes $2 million fully guaranteed and could be worth up to $5.4 million, per source.

Call us crazy, but any opportunity for McCown should be seen as the right opportunity. It’s not like people are beating his door down. He gets $2 million guaranteed and the possibility of earning $5.4 million even though he may not get a single snap in the regular season.
Those who were hoping for a Colin Kaepernick workout are probably upset, but let’s face it. We’ll never see him on an NFL field again. In spite of that, as far as talent goes, we know he’s better than some of the other options ‘The Birds’ had (Brock Osweiler, Matt Cassel, Mark Sanchez, and Sam Bradford). In the end, they went with McCown. There’s truly not a whole lot else that they could have done.
