Richard Rodgers injury recently required him to be carted off of the field at Eagles join practice Monday afternoon.

Ever since the Philadelphia Eagles inked former Green Bay Packers tight end Richard Rodgers to a deal last season, he’s struggled to remain healthy. During the preseason last year, Rodgers suffered an injury, which put his official debut in Philly on hold.

While the Eagles were good in the tight end department with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert last season, Rodgers’ veteran leadership was a decent addition to the tight ends room. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a lot of opportunities to contribute on the field.

In seven games, Rodgers only managed to catch one pass for seven yards. It was assumed that Rodgers wouldn’t stay in Philly beyond last season, but the Eagles’ front office figured it was worth giving the veteran another shot. So they inked Rodgers to another one-year deal.

Once again this offseason, Rodgers is struggling to stay healthy. As he’s been dealing with a foot injury for the last few weeks, Rodgers failed to get on the field during the Eagles first two preseason matchups against the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Finally, Rodgers was set to return to the practice field this week, as he would be given two more weeks to prove he belongs on the final roster. Unfortunately, another injury might wreck those chances. And this time around, it sounds like his injury might be a ‘worst-case scenario’ type of situation as the team had to cart him off of the field.

Details on the situation

After Rodgers initially went down, there were reports that he was literally crawling off of the field. Eventually, after he got to the sidelines, the medical staff greeted him with the cart. A visibly upset Rodgers must’ve felt like his sudden injury could be season-ending, as Eagles head coach Doug Pederson went over to talk to him to try and calm the veteran tight end down.

There are no further details at this time regarding exactly what the injury is, and what caused it. Right now, all we know is that Rodgers was clearly in excruciating pain and couldn’t get off of the field without assistance. The Eagles will offer an injury update when necessary.
