The Worst Eagles backup quarterback ever (times 3): Every quarterback that backed up Jim McMahon in 1991.

Every quarterback that backed up Jim McMahon in 1991 lands here.

With one of the most historically great defenses of all time backing them, all Pat Ryan, Brad Goebel, and Jeff Kemp had to do was get their act together for five games until McMahon could get back in Week 10.

They couldn’t.

This trio of terrible quarterbacks would go 11 straight quarters without a touchdown pass. McMahon would return and play well, but by then, it was too late. The damage was done, and there was nothing he could do.

The team, as previously mentioned, went 10-6 and missed the playoffs. That’s, again, with what was arguably the greatest single-season performance in the history of NFL defenses. They missed the playoffs because of the bad quarterback play of everyone minus McMahon.

This trio was so bad that they couldn’t be carried. Bryce Paup may be one of many public enemies in Philadelphia for injuring Randall Cunningham, but Ryan, Goebel, and Kemp are also high on that list, and they top this list.
