T.J. Edwards, LB

While we’re talking about linebackers who need to prove their worth, we might as well bring up the undrafted free agent, T.J. Edwards as well. He’s currently in the same situation as Gerry. By no means will Edwards have a significant role if he makes the final roster, but with the number of injuries on the team, he does add necessary depth — if he makes the final squad.

So far, we’ve been intrigued with Edwards — but we’re not exactly sure if he’s playing well enough to avoid getting waived and placed on the practice squad to start his career. That wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen, but Edwards currently has a great opportunity in front of him. He just needs to finish out with two stellar performances.

Orlando Scandrick, CB

The Eagles found out last year how hard it is to keep a defense productive while dealing with a ton of injuries in the secondary. This year, they want to make sure they solidify good depth early on, rather than scrambling for practice squad players midway through the year.

Right now, their resident nickel corner Cre’Von LeBlanc is out with a foot injury. Therefore, they need a next-man-up behind either Avonte Maddox or Sidney Jones. Orlando Scandrick hasn’t been productive in years — but he could re-emerge with the Eagles just as Patrick Robinson did in 2017. So far though, Scandrick hasn’t made a very strong case through two weeks.

Tre Sullivan, S

At this point, Tre Sullivan might be on his last leg with the Eagles. He’s been on and off the roster for the last couple of years now, and he keeps getting more and more chances. The first week of the preseason, he had some visible mistakes. Then again, nobody looked sharp in that secondary.

Last week, he didn’t stand out for any bad reasons, but he hasn’t really been all that good either. With Blake Countess waived out of the picture, there’s a fourth spot wide open for the taking. We’ll see if Sullivan can snag it or not.
