Philadelphia Eagles talk: Michael Irvin finally gets something right
If you watch the NFL Network and you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, you’ve been irritated by Michael Irvin, but recently he came close to hitting the bull’s eye on something.
At times, watching Michael Irvin on the NFL Network can be an excruciating experience, especially when the subject turns to the Dallas Cowboys. Maybe that’s only noticeable if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, but it’s hard to believe that.
Ask anyone who cheers for the Washington Redskins or New York Giants. It’s probably the same sentiment floating around their fan bases. At times, watching Irvin discuss subjects that are Cowboy related makes you start thinking of terms like ‘homer’ and phrases like ‘biased opinion’.
It’s almost like watching Troy Aikman call Cowboys games or watching Pat Summerall do it before him. Even if they try to be impartial, anyone watching can tell that it’s killing them.
Sometimes, watching Irvin argue his point is like watching Skip Bayless do the same thing. It makes you wonder if they actually believe what they’re saying or if they just come up with over-the-top angles to get people talking. Recently, Irvin came close to hitting the bull’s eye though.
With all of the turmoil surrounding Dallas, with all of the contract talk, and with their star running back Ezekiel Elliott becoming the first NFL athlete in history to go to Cabo on business, there’s some worry in ‘Big D’. Irvin may be thinking the Eagles will keep a recent NFC East trend going, one where there hasn’t been a repeat champion since the Eagles did it from 2001 to 2004.
He just can’t bring himself to say the words
Dallas took the division in 2018. Irvin seems to think Philly might give his team some issues in the 2019 season. Here’s a quote.
"When I look at the Eagles and Cowboys, that’s a tight battle, a tough battle, The way I look at it now, it’s a two-horse race. It’s between the Eagles and the Cowboys and how far that goes. Well, until they get Ezekiel Elliott back, It’s probably a one-horse race with the Eagles."
That had to have killed him. Recently NFL.com got 28 analysts together to pick the eight division winners and the Wildcard teams from both the AFC and NFC. 22 of 28 see the Eagles as being good enough to claim superiority in the NFC East.
No, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Skip Bayless weren’t among the analysts who were polled. Still, even they have to see what’s taking place (even if they aren’t willing to admit it). Philly looks primed to snatch the crown from Dallas in the NFC East. We’ll see if there are any noticeable changes in Aikman’s demeanor when he and Joe Buck call the game three days before Christmas. For the average Eagles fan, what could make for a better gift?
