This year’s fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, Clayton Thorson, signs with the Dallas Cowboys less than 24 hours after his release from the team.

Following the release of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ initial 53-man roster of the 2019 season, there were some noticeable absences, their fifth-round selection of the 2019 NFL Draft was one of them. Philly made Clayton Thorson the 167th-overall selection of the most recent selection meeting. but less than five months later, they had made their minds up.

Thorson wasn’t going to be a part of the Eagles’ future. He wasn’t even going to be a member of their practice squad. Less than 24 hours later, however, he has found another home, one with one of the Eagles’ biggest rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

Thorson’s fate was all but sealed following another lackluster preseason performance, this one in a shutout Week 4 loss to the New York Jets. That and a sad showing in Philly’s preseason opener sandwiched a nice effort versus the Jacksonville jaguars.

Still, once Josh McCown was convinced to get back in the NFL and off of the couch, most of us knew that it would be he and Nate Sudfeld occupying the quarterback room with Carson Wentz. Then, following the August 31st cuts, Philly decided that they wouldn’t even add Thorson to the practice squad as most of us assumed they would.

Philly instead added a former quarterback from another rival, the New York Giants. Pencil in Kyle Lauletta as one of the ten members of Philly’s practice squad. Signing with Dallas makes Thorson the third quarterback on the Cowboys’ roster, but don’t expect any revenge games any time soon.

Dak Prescott never gets hurt. He’ll be the guy the Eagles see on October 20th and December 22nd.

Prior to the most recent draft, Eagles CEO and chairman Jeffrey Lurie stated he’d like to see Philly draft a quarterback in every draft. Joe Douglas and Howie Roseman honored his request. Thorson just didn’t work out. Just in case you were wondering, it’s business as usual at the Novacare Complex.
