5. Stefen Wisniewski, OG

To go from being a starting guard on a Super Bowl-winning team to benched the following year, and to be cut the next offseason is a problematic situation to be in. Stefen Wisniewski’s situation in Philly is easily the most strange, but compelling series of events in quite some time.

While it’s shocking to see Wiz cut because of where he was just two years ago, we’re not all that surprised by his actual release. This guy was simply not good this offseason up front.

6/7. Alex Ellis/Josh Perkins, TE

Josh Perkins was on the Eagles final roster last season because they lacked wide receiver depth. He wasn’t great in the regular season, but for a third-string tight end, he definitely wasn’t bad either. Unfortunately, Perkins didn’t do enough this offseason to make his way back to the roster.

Alex Ellis had a good preseason though. During week three, he reached the endzone for the first time, and week four he made the best out of lousy quarterback play. Seeing the Eagles only go with two tight ends on the initial 53-man roster is definitely head-scratching.

We’re expecting a move to acquire a third guy soon, but it’s clear it won’t be Ellis or Perkins. Ellis, however, will most likely get back on the practice squad though. So at least there’s that.
