Clayton Thorson, QB

It doesn’t feel great knowing the Eagles are already finished with their 2019 fifth-round pick. The former Northwestern quarterback had decent overall numbers in college. But after breaking down his career there, it was clear that he’s not the cream of the crop.

For whatever reason though, the Eagles decided to spend their fifth and final pick of the 2019 NFL Draft on Clayton Thorson. At ITI, we criticized the selection but left an open mind. As it turns out, we, along with many other analysts, writers, and fans, were correct. This guy doesn’t have it.

When spring rolled around, Thorson was hardly impressive. When training camp came about, he was pretty awful there too. Thorson had a chance to make a difference in the preseason, but out of three games played, he showed that he’s either not cut out for the NFL at all, or still not ready after starting all four years at Northwestern.

The Eagles gave Thorson tons of time in the preseason to flip his reputation around, but he failed to do so. Therefore, they waived the fifth-round pick and looked elsewhere for a practice squad candidate. Now, Thorson is on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.
