The Philadelphia Eagles have reported interest in Melvin Gordon, and don’t seem as excited about Jordan Howard as they once were.

There’s never a dull day in the Philadelphia Eagles front office. With numerous significant players on the trade block around the league, Howie Roseman is busy working the phones. As he revealed last week, whenever there’s a name available, he’s inquiring.

Does that mean the Eagles are always one-hundred percent serious about acquiring a player? Not exactly. But is a general manager really a good GM if they aren’t doing their due diligence and asking for prices on the trade market? Probably not.

Howie Roseman has been in on all of the action around the NFL this offseason. He called up the Steelers a few months back to ask about wide receiver Antonio Brown. He spent a lot of time on the phone with the Texans finding out what they need to send in exchange for Jadeveon Clowney.

Now, there’s a report going around stating that the Eagles were the one and only team to make an offer to the Los Angeles Chargers for their disgruntled running back, Melvin Gordon.

The reported offer:

According to Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the Eagles were the only team to make a serious offer to the Chargers. Apparently, they were willing to send a mid-round pick to Los Angeles along with one of their offseason acquisitions, Jordan Howard.

Just a few months ago, the Eagles made a trade with the Chicago Bears in order to acquire Howard. So why are they suddenly trying to trade him away? Well, it’s simple — Jordan Howard likely doesn’t have much of a future in Philadelphia.

As we know, the former Bears running back is on the final year of his deal. While Howard is a reliable NFL running back, the Eagles viewed him more as a temporary solution, rather than an answer for the future. A month after they acquired Howard, the Eagles got their answer for the future in second-round running back, Miles Sanders.

Now, the Eagles saw a situation in L.A. that they attempted to take advantage of — similar to how they took advantage of the Miami Dolphins in 2017 when they traded for Jay Ajayi. While the Eagles didn’t come away with anything this time, there is something to take away here. Howard’s first season in Philly is most likely going to be his last.
