The Philadelphia Eagles place as a top-five team in PFF’s Week 1 Power Rankings, but trail in the conference.

We’re officially knocking on the door of the 2019 NFL season. It’s been a while since all 32 teams took the field for a meaningful football game, but we don’t have to wait any longer. In a little over 24 hours, the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers will kick the season off.

Then, in a few days, the Philadelphia Eagles will enter Lincoln Financial Field to open up their season against their NFC East nemesis, the Washington Redskins. For the last two seasons, the Eagles have dominated Washington, sweeping them two years in a row.

This year, we’re expecting the same results. And honestly, there’s a good chance the Eagles get close to sweeping the entire NFC East. After all, they are one of the best teams in the NFL that happens to play in what’s considered to be one of the weaker divisions in football.

With kickoff approaching though, the Week 1 Power Rankings are flooding the net. As expected, the Eagles are reasonably placed pretty high up in most. PFF’s first power rankings of the regular season feature the Eagles as a top-five squad in the NFL as a whole. However, they aren’t viewed as the top dogs in the NFC.

Where’s Philly on the ranks?

Coming in at No. 5 exactly, are the Philadelphia Eagles. Who do they trail in the NFC? The Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. We can’t really argue the Saints, as they did beat the Eagles not once, but twice in 2018. The first loss against the Saints was a total blowout.

The second loss was a lot closer, but more devastating considering it was in the playoffs. While we believe the Eagles are in much better shape to take on New Orleans in 2019, we can’t really debate who deserves to be higher right now.

As for the Rams, that one is a bit questionable. The Rams are the defending NFC Champions, but the Eagles seem to have their number. Over the last two years, Doug Pederson and the Eagles are 2-0 against Sean McVay and the Rams. We’ll see what it will take for the Eagles to jump over Los Angeles this season in the power rankings.
