Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz puts together an impressive comeback win for the 2019 season debut.

Tensions were high at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon. As the Washington Redskins came to town to face the Philadelphia Eagles, many expected a blowout win for Philly. Unfortunately, the game didn’t start off the way many expected.

Washington caught fire on the opening drive by converting on multiple third-downs before eventually reaching the end zone to take an early lead. The Eagles offense was expected to respond with one of their few added weapons over the offseason, but they failed to do so.

Once again, Washington’s offense took advantage of the holes in the Eagles defense and began to demand an alarming lead on the Eagles. At one point, the Birds trailed by 17, without a single point on the scoreboard. After seeing Philly struggle early on in games last season, their 2019 effort was off to the same disappointing start.

If only the Eagles had a game-changing playmaker on their offense to turn things around. Oh wait, that’s right — DeSean Jackson is back! Many of us guessed that Jackson would score on a deep ball in his first game back the moment the Eagles traded for him and anybody who made that assumption wasn’t wrong. Jackson got behind the Washington secondary in the second quarter, and Carson Wentz launched it for him to run under and go in the end zone for six.

Even though the first Jackson touchdown was exciting, the Eagles still trailed ten points going into the half. As you can expect, the Philly crowd within The Linc booed the Eagles and their coaching staff as they went back to the locker room to let everybody know how unpleasant the first half was for the viewers rooting for the guys in midnight green.

The Eagles heard — and they listened. The second half was a completely different story as the Eagles turned the tables. The defense woke up and kept the Redskins offense in check. Meanwhile, Carson Wentz and the Eagles offense caught fire.

Wentz might not have looked like himself all the time last season, but this guy is back to his old ways with his injury behind him. Despite the slow start, second-half Carson Wentz was firing on all cylinders. He was able to sit in the pocket and deliver solid throws around the field.

But he also went back to his vintage ways with getting out of the pocket to avoid the rush and improvise as well. Overall, Wentz finished the day with quite an impressive stat line. He completed 28 of his 39 attempted passes. Wentz threw for a total of 313 yards and notched three touchdowns. His passer rating for the afternoon was a cool 121.

It’s just one week for Wentz and the Eagles offense, but so far they looked as good as advertised once they got going. Not only did Wentz connect with Jackson twice on a deep ball, but the fourth-year passer is also back on the same page with Alshon Jeffery.

A quicker start is desired for the future, but after week one there isn’t much to complain about regarding the franchise QB. Starting off the season with a 32-27 comeback win in a divisional matchup is a promsing situation for Wentz and the Eagles offense.
