A letter to Eagles WR DeSean Jackson that he may never read
Make sure you check out DeSean Jackson’s cleats the next time you watch the Philadelphia Eagles during warm-ups. If you know him personally, pass this letter along.
How are you doing Mr. Jackson? Whenever we all look back on Week 1 of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 2019 regular season, we’ll remember a 17-point disadvantage. We’ll remember DeSean Jackson and Quinton Dunbar, their argument, and the personal foul penalty that cost the Eagles 15 yards and killed a drive.
We’ll remember the comeback. We’ll remember two long bombs to you. We’ll remember how they sparked his team and how they ignited a fan base. Much has been written about that, but we haven’t discussed something that you did way before any of that.
Let’s go back before the standing ovation that came when you were reintroduced to an adoring fan base. Let’s go back to the pregame warmups. Did anyone notice what you were wearing?
Those that didn’t should take a look.

Why wasn’t this talked about more on Sunday? It’s amazing when you think about it. DeSean Jackson will be wearing a pair of Nipsey Hussle cleats during the pregame warmups of every one of the Eagles’ 16 games of the 2019 NFL season. When the game is over, he’ll auction them off, and the proceeds will go to Hussle’s children, Kross and Emani.
That’s an even better story than the comeback, and if it was up to some of us, that would be the big story that came out of this one.
We spend a ton of time talking about how pro football players have helped our Fantasy football teams. We talk about the dramatic comebacks and the additional checkmark in the win column, but these stories are just as important.
Stories like these won’t put six more points on the scoreboard or put some distance between you and the other guys in your Fantasy league, but they’re just as important. Stories like these remind us that everything that was said by some coach who shall remain nameless wasn’t really representative of the guy we’ve cheered for and against.
Stories like this remind us that life is about more than football. Thank you for all that you do Mr. Jackson. We needed that reminder.
