Philadelphia Eagles were on Amari Cooper, Dak Prescott’s minds this past Sunday
The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t play Dallas this week, but Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott were thinking about their NFC East rivals during their game.
Did the Dallas Cowboys hang their 2018 NFC East Champions banner this past weekend? It seems as though last year’s accomplishments are still all they want to brag about despite the brand new season kicking off. This week, the entire NFC East played each other.
The Washington Redskins came to town to face the Philadelphia Eagles. And in Dallas, the Cowboys hosted the New York Giants, as they typically do for week one. While the Eagles maintained their focus on coming back from a slow start against Washington, Dallas seemed to have taken care of business with ease against New York.
In fact, their game was so easy; they had the opportunity to poke a little bit of fun at the Eagles’ secondary from their second meeting last season. Just in case you don’t remember (it’s okay if you forgot, on purpose) the Eagles allowed Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper to dominate in the air.
Prescott threw for 455 yards and three scores. Cooper, who joined the team the month before, torched the Eagles damaged secondary for 217 yards. He was responsible for all three of Prescott’s passing touchdowns. One of which, sealed the deal in overtime thanks to a lucky bounce off of Rasul Douglas’ hands.
On paper, it seemed as though Prescott and Cooper made it look ‘easy’ against the Eagles during their Week 14 matchup in Dallas. So easy, that they just had to bring it up as they were dominating the Giants at home this past weekend to open the season.
“Easier than Philly”
Rent-free, as they say. This weekend, Dak and Cooper surely made it look easy against the Giants weak secondary. After all, they dominated New York with a final score of 35-17. Prescott passed for just over 400 yards for four scores. Cooper accounted for 106 yards and a touchdown.
On Sunday, Dallas was impressive and won with ease. But they seem to forget that the matchup against Philly last year was all but easy. Sure, they put up monster numbers against the Eagles, who were missing three out of four starters in the secondary. However, they seem to forget the Eagles forced that “easy” game into overtime, courtesy of Dak’s two boneheaded interceptions.
Dallas has their Eagles sweep and NFC East title to brag about from last year. But 2019 is a different season. Both, the Eagles and the Cowboys are very talented on each side of the ball. And whether Dallas or Philly wins the divisional title, it won’t be easy for either party. Thankfully, Dallas issues Philly some bulletin board material here. On the flip side though, why is Philly on their mind when their first matchup isn’t until October? Again, rent-free.
