Miami Dolphins star safety once had dreams of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, they have the opportunity to get him.

Around the spring of 2018, Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick was gearing up for the 2018 NFL Draft. As a consensus Top-20 pick, many teams were eyeing up the New Jersey native. However, it would’ve been a dream of his to land with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Growing up in Middlesex County, Fitzpatrick was in-between what he described as “Giants and Eagles country.” For Fitzpatrick, he gravitated towards being an Eagles fan. “They’re my favorite team,” Fitzpatrick told David Weinberg of The Press of Atlantic City back in March of 2018.

“I always rooted for the Eagles. I loved watching Donovan McNabb, and I try to pattern my game now after Malcolm Jenkins. I was really excited they won the Super Bowl.” Since the Eagles won the Super Bowl during Fitzpatrick’s final year at Bama, there was a good chance he wouldn’t land with his dream team, who had the 32nd overall pick.

Instead, Fitzpatrick was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 11th overall pick. Now, a little over a year later, Fitzpatrick wants out. Being that the Dolphins are expected to compete for the No. 1 overall pick in 2020, they don’t anticipate winning much in 2019.

And as they are approaching a re-build, they are looking to acquire as many high draft picks as possible. Fitzpatrick, who’s been exploring a trade, could turn into one soon. Being that the Philadelphia Eagles could use a young safety for the future, trading a first or a second-round pick for Fitzpatrick could definitely be in the plans.

Considering that Fitzpatrick is versatile and ‘models his game’ after their veteran safety Malcolm Jenkins, it makes the potential deal even more intriguing. The chances are, Howie Roseman is already making calls, as many teams probably followed suit.

After all, Fitzpatrick’s value is pretty solid, considering the asking price. It’s unclear if the Eagles will be able to get this deal done, but they should definitely try to make the Eagles fans dream come true by getting him out of Miami this season.
